A Perfect Self-Care Stay: Inn at Nye Beach Review

A Relaxing Solo Night for Rest and Recharge at the Inn at Nye Beach in Oregon

After spending a wonderful week in Medford, Oregon for a tourism trip and travel writers conference, my outgoing introvert self was exhausted. I’d driven down from Seattle for the conference and had spent the night in Depoe Bay, but wasn’t sure where I should do an extra night on the way home. I love Depoe Bay and was thinking of finding a last minute reservation there again, but then I stumbled upon the Inn at Nye Beach in Newport while browsing hotels on Google Maps.

It looked perfect for what I needed. A solo room with an ocean view and a reasonably affordable price for an oceanfront stay with spa-like amenities ($309 all in with tax and fees mid-week in late September for a deluxe oceanfront room!) and the pictures looked lovely.

The Inn at Nye Beach was one of those rare occurrences where the room was actually better than the pictures! It was modern yet cozy, romantic yet functional, loud yet peaceful (I’ll get to the loud in a minute).

I walked into my room 20 minutes before sunset and immediately exhaled and felt my stress levels go down. I’m more of a shower person, but the bathtub was too good to pass up. I dropped my bags and turned on the faucet to start to fill the deep tub up, pouring in the provided bath salts as well.

Then I went to the balcony to watch the sunset. My third floor balcony was the perfect place to watch it since it was an unobstructed view of the changing sky and crashing waves.

Once the sun had slipped beneath the horizon, I hopped into the bath with my kindle and a glass of wine, and watched the sky turn deeper shades of pink and orange before the inky colors of night replaced them.

Oh yeah, let’s talk about that bathtub view. The Inn at Nye Beach had one of the coolest room layouts I’ve ever seen — and I’ve been fortunate to stay in some pretty amazing accommodations.

The tub was positioned by shutters that went closed, separated the bathroom from the bed and living portion of the room. But when opened, the bathtub looked right over the bed and onto the balcony and view beyond it…that glorious Oregon Coastline.

When I’m staying in hotels like this solo for some R&R, I don’t usually go out for dinner, preferring to luxuriate in the clutter-free space (or in this case, non-destroyed beams; we were going through a massive remodel and I’d be heading home to sleep in the basement couch for a few more weeks. Not so relaxing!).

So after I left the bath and wrapped myself in one of the thick robes the hotel provides, I made myself a perfect girl’s night in dinner. A can of my favorite store-bought soup heated up in the microwave (I brought a bowl, but the coffee mugs would have worked too) followed by the best part. The little picnic-style meal I’d bought myself before leaving Medford Valley. A baguette from Coquette Bakery and two different types of blue cheese plus Italian olives purchased next door from the famous Rogue Creamery.

Hanging out at the pool would have been fun, too…but I preferred my relaxing room!

Making this meal even better was that I got to enjoy it on the coffee table in front of the gas fireplace in the room while listening to the waves.

I fell asleep to the sound of those waves, which were the “loud” I mentioned earlier. The waves were so plentiful and powerful that it just sounded like a like a natural noise machine with a slightly louder wave crash every now and then. Even with the door closed, you could hear it, but I left it open with just the screen door shut and fell fast asleep. I’d planned to get up and shut the glass door as well, but the sound lulled me asleep before I did so and to my surprise the cool ocean air was the perfect temp snuggled up in the comfortable bed with plush blankets atop me. I woke up when the sunrise reflection started to turn the horizon a hazy pink.

At my pre-determined time I made at check-in, my breakfast was delivered to my door. I LOVED this. No having to get up to go find a continental breakfast spread. Instead, you get a menu to hang on your door that includes free items like scrambled eggs, sausage links, cereal or oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, and pastry items. On the other side you can find upsell items that you can add on for a fee like french toast or a cappuccino. If you prefer eating out, you can show the door menu card to a local restaurant across the street for $10 off.

I had no desire to leave the room, so chose the breakfast delivery. I enjoyed it again in front of the fireplace with a cup of the French Press coffee I’d made earlier. Upon check-in, I was handed a pack of the perfect amount of ground espresso beans for the french press pot in the room. I’m familiar with French Press, but if you’re not, there are clear directions provided for how to brew it in the morning. It’s quite easy.

Also, at check-in, the attendant mentioned you could get a pour of black coffee in your room mug from the person delivering breakfast. I was on a call with our Project Manager for our house remodel when they knocked, so quickly took my food and forgot to check out that coffee refill option. But wasn’t a problem since I just brewed another pot of that deliciously proportioned French Press!

I then spent the morning listening to seagulls and and watching the waves and debating if I should go check out the hot tub, but in the end I was just too cozy in my room and didn’t want to leave it for even a minute before check out (which is at 11am).

I left the Inn at Nye Beach feeling rested and recharged and excited to greet my family and the chaos of our remodel.

Inn at Nye Beach FAQs

Where is the Inn at Nye Beach?

It’s located on the central Oregon coast in one of the northern communities of Newport, OR.

Is there parking?

Yes, there is a free parking lot underneath the hotel. It can get full and if that happens, the front desk receptionist told me it’s free to park overnight on the street by the hotel, too. The parking lot has an elevator accessible by keycard that connects with the lobby and other floors of the hotel.

What other amenities does the Inn at Nye Beach have?

There is a large heated, spa-like tub on a small bluff over the beach, across the parking lot from the hotel. The lobby also has wine and snacks available for purchase. The rooms have a microwave, fridge, television, electric kettle, french-press coffee maker, wine glasses, and coffee mugs. Lobby at Inn at Nye Beach

Are all the rooms oceanview?

No, but budget-friendly travelers will appreciate the lower price tag of the rooms on the other side of the hotel. My guess is you can still hear the ocean, and you can still use the hotel’s private access to the beach or enjoy the views from the spa pool.

Is there anything else to do in Nye Beach?

Yes! Obviously walking/playing on the beach, including being a great place for kite flying. Take time to also explore the cute little main street, which is walkable from the Inn. It is punctuated on the east end of the street by a sign announcing your arrival to Nye Beach and then has a bunch of cutesy shops and eateries.

Is Nye Beach Kid-Friendly?

Kids are allowed, but I’d say this is a better hotel option for couples or solo travelers.
